What is wifi repeater and what does it do?

With the increase in internet usage, we want to use the wireless connection uninterruptedly in every part of our environment. Now we want to use the internet by connecting to the wifi network from every corner of the house or office from telephones, game consoles and mobile phones in our home.

These are the devices that enable the connection to reach the areas where the wireless network does not receive with these wifi range increasing devices.

The length of the distance between the modem we use and the other rooms in the house or office weakens the strength of this connection with thick walls and the corridor, so we can reach every point with our wifi extender devices.

How should we position the device?

For example, we can put a wifi extender device between our home wireless network and the area where the wifi does not. In order for the extender to work well, it must be able to receive the wifi signal from the existing modem, so the extender must be placed near the border of the area receiving wifi. The device will receive the signal from here and transmit the wireless connection to inaccessible areas.

When we look at the Wi-Fi range extender models, we see many different products that you can choose according to their features and prices. When purchasing these devices, it will be useful to choose devices that can change direction and have more than 3 antennas. Another point to be aware of is the amount of wireless speed. This is from a feature ranging from 300 ms to 1750 ms. The higher the speed, the better. Of course, this will affect the price of the device you will buy.

Wifi Repeater Configuration

Step1) First of all, we turn on our computer and connect the wifi repeater device to the computer. Then plug the device into the wall. When you see a wi-fi repeater network connection between wireless networks in the computer connection, we say connect.

Step 2) Then we log in with the default ip address to enter the user interface of the device for the configuration settings. Default information will be given with your device in the form of default ip, username and password. If you can’t log in, reset your device and try again. The default name and password is usually “admin

Step3) The important part starts after that. After logging into the user interface, we select “Wifi Repeater Mode” from here. See image.

Step 4) When you say NEXT to the next page, the password setting part and the security mode appear. Your wifi repeater password is the same as your main router. If you change your password and security mode settings that you will choose as wpa2 from here, you must enter the router interface and do the same with the information there. But you don’t have to touch anything unless you’re going to change the password and other settings. Say “Save” and “Reboot” the device. After a few minutes, your device will start and work as your connection is made.

How to set up wifi repeater/extender via WPS

It is generally easy to install and the WPS mode on the device is activated. so much. If you want, you can enter the user interface to create a different SSID and add a wifi password. The adjustments here are up to your preference. If you want, you can create a different wifi name and adjust the security settings accordingly. Those who enter the wireless connection choose this different network and log in with a password created specifically for it.

It is enough to press the WPS button on the device for 7-10 seconds. In a few seconds, your device will be automatically paired and connected, and your device will be ready to use.

Wireless range extenders function like a second modem and provide the possibility of creating a second network rather than repeating the wifi signal. Thus, maximum connection quality is achieved. If we look at the most used extender brands in the world, Netgear, TP Link, Linksys, and D link appear. Home mesh systems also perform the same function..

As a result, we can say that the main purpose of range extenders is to expand the wifi range by overcoming obstacles such as walls, corridors.
